In my previous review of Thundercats figures I admit I was less than impressed.  However this new batch switches that view around as these (along with Lion-O) are probably the best of the bunch.  The irony of this statement is two of the figures I am reviewing were not on my radar originally.  I was going to pass on both Tygra and Panthro not because of any hatred but simple economics.  Money's tight and I have to cut collecting back, but I nearly made the wrong call.

Since the last review I have seen the new Thundercats show and while there are some good episodes I am not overwhelmed.  If the show is on I will catch it but I don't feel the need to go out of my way to watch it on a regular basis.   Still my wife noticed my watching and probably assumed this was my next obsession so for my birthday she bought me Tygra, Panthro, and Deluxe Mumm-Ra.  Mumm-Ra was the only figure I was wanting originally, but far be it from me to not look at a figure I get as a present for my birthday.  Glad I did now.  This is one of those times I think my wife may know me better than I know myself.

So in the previous reviews I pretty well covered my views on Thundercats and there is really nothing at all to add now besides the above.  So with that said let's get right into the figures.

First is Tygra, whom I will say has been the biggest surprise thus far.  To be honest when the Thundercats were first listed I had completely forgotten Tygra as a character.  I actually had to go back and look at the old Thundercats cartoon to remember him.  I won't say I am overly impressed with him in the cartoon either, but after getting the figure I do have to say he has a pretty good representation in plastic.

He also has a holster and honestly his gun fits in both forward and backwards, so I guess you have some versatility there.  I am sure the instructions with him tell which way to point it, but who needs instructions right.  Besides those instructions feel a bit insulting after a bit (i.e. Place Cheetara's staff into her hand).  So pretty much I ignore them.  Also I was reading a couple of reviews that were complaining about the whip being so "rubbery."  Well it's a whip, the fact is that you can bend it and twist it in dozens of ways.  While it is rubbery, it's still sturdy enough to be held over his head, now if it were a sword I would get this argument, but a whip it works well with.  My only knock to the figure would be the fact that the green and orange just don't seem to match for me.  I know odd but it's there.  I do admit the head sculpt looks like an imitation of Wolverine but that isn't as big a knock as the colors.

Yes, I have to recommend this one highly.  I can only think that you would pass if you weren't a Thundercats fan in which case it is highly likely you would not be reading this.

Now on to the big guy of the Thundercats, Panthro.

Somehow, I always kind of liked Panthro.  He is one of the few that stuck out to me in the old Thundercats cartoon.  I am not sure why but for whatever reason he was one of the characters I was very on the fence about and am now very, very glad I got him.  Like Tygra, his rubbery weapons are not a factor as his Nunchucks are supposed to move.  In fact just like Tygra I kind of welcome that moveably here.

Panthro also has a second set of nunchucks that fit on his back.  Also he has some impressive spikes on his calves and forearms that I wish the Thor movie like had figured out with Destroyer.  The fig actually looks better than his cartoon representation which is unexpected but also very welcome.  The colors and details are pretty spot on and look great.  While he is the "big guy" of the Thundercats to be fair he really isn't as huge as some other larger characters.

As you can see he barely makes it with Juggernaught and Destroyer, still that isn't a terrible thing since Panthro doesn't need to be that huge.

So if you are a Thundercats fan I would have to call this one the must have of all the figures next to Lion-O.  He looks great and is one of the few Thundercats that fits the character perfectly.  Granted his articulation is less than Lion-O and Tygra but not significantly (Most notably in his hips which to not have swivels).  Still that is not enough to knock the figure as he is just awesome.

But there is one more that might be a slight bit better:

This is Mumm-Ra in his "I'm gonna kick your arse form."  Again I have no clue why he has to stay in mummy form but no matter what you probably need this one for dealing with Lion-O and company.  I have to give Bandai credit, they did a fantastic job with him as well.  When I got him I was afraid his arms were stuck in the position in the box, however he has a couple of very well hidden swivels in his bicep that allow a pretty wide range of motion for his figure.  The arms are a bit long, but I do think they are going for that look in the character.

A few minor knocks I have is his head, it looks like he suffers heavy from "pin-head syndrome" but also his character appears that way in the cartoon (but not as drastically as this figure) so it can be somewhat ignored.  I am not a huge fan of his oversized gauntlet, but I understand why it is there.  The sword of course is all rubbery, which is not a huge deal for Tygra or Panthro and their weapons, but for Mumm-Ra's sword it is an issue.  One of his cooler features is a small groove in the hands that allows him to hold his sword.  It's not the most stable holding of an accessory I have seen, but it does allow Mumm-Ra to hold the sword and have huge hands as a figure like this should.

Size-wise I admit I was expecting him to be a bit bigger, at least as tall as Destroyer and wide as Juggernaught.  As it is he really isn't much bigger than Panthro which gives the buyer a feeling of getting less for their dollar (especially when you consider as a deluxe figure he costs $11.99 in most stores, nearly double the regular ones).  The wings do kind of make up for this, but not entirely.  However he looks like more bang for the buck than the Tygra or Lion-O deluxe figs (who look like the same figures with different accessories).

I do have to say, he looks weird beside of the Mummy Mumm-Ra as they look like they are two different characters.  I realize this is a design thing and does reflect the appearances in the cartoon, but still it's kind of odd.  After I got this figure I saw the larger version.  Some have been using it with the smaller Lion-O.  The only thing that tempted me about that figure was he had the cool double bladed sword he uses in the cartoon and I wish this Deluxe figure had that.

So overall I do have to recommend this figure, he's cool, very detailed, even has removable bits of armor.  I thought being a deluxe figure he would have much less articulation (I guess Hasbro has me wary of Deluxe figs now a days) but that doesn't seem to be the case.  He could have had more, but still is pretty cool.

So that should wrap up my Thundercats for now (Unless I get a Grune which looks unlikely as he seems to sell out fast).

So until next time-HOOOOOOO!
