When I started this webcomic, I knew I needed some bad guy. Mostly I was having the bad guy represent the toys disgarded in youth. Antron from the Micronaughts line fit the bill perfect. He was an old toy in my collection that I had lost all the accessories to (including his removable brain) and it was very apparent he was incomplete. But he also had a complete body which was important because I wanted a character that could also move around and interact. What ended up happening is Antron the character took on a life of his own.
Initially he had a speech impediment that caused him to replace words with similar words but words that were out of place. This was intended to be a representation of his lack of brain (after all, how do you search for the right word in your brain if you have no brain). After a bit I abandoned this idea because he dialogue got so hard to write and still be coherent. If you look back at his early appearances he does have some odd speech patterns.
Next came his big story which was intended to be one chapter with him attacking 1:18th town with the assistance of the larger Marvel Legends and DCU figures. After a bit though I greatly expanded the idea and one chapter turned into twenty chapters, thus Scale Wars was born. The original idea is still relatively intact in chapters 19 and 20 of the original Scale Wars mini-series.
Antron was supposed to fade from the scene after that, but after the wonder of that story I knew I had to keep him around (Thus, his escape was written in at the end of Scale Wars). I knew I would revisit him at some point. What ended up happening is he has become the center of the big change in Scale Wars. I always intended at some point to make the villains become real villains but I needed a reason for them all to turn at the same time. All the while I have had Antron (with a huge assist from Palpatine) poking at various factions behind the scenes. He ended up being the BIG villain of my story which is funny when you consider originally he was just going to pop up in one chapter.
